Literary English: History and Style
Students will develop a framework of English linguistic history; they will be able to trace changes in morphological, syntactical, lexical stratification, and stylistic patterns from Old English to Present Day English.
Students will learn how to characterize a style of a literary text through analysis of register, diction, and syntactical patterns.
Meaning of Linguistic Textures
Students will develop an appreciation of how the linguistic texture of texts creates meaning.
