Course Description
Hazardous waste statutes and regulations; introduction to hazardous waste treatment, storage, disposal, and monitoring techniques. Geotechnical aspects of environmental engineering. Topics include municipal and hazardous solid waste landfill design and characterization and remediation techniques for contaminated soil and groundwater.

Learning Outcome
Be able to produce a preliminary design of a landfill. This inlcudes understanding regulations, chemical fate and transport, geotechnical design methods, and project planning issues.

Be able to communicate the design and design decisions to a non-specialist but technical audiance. This will include communicating the reasons for basic assumptions and why they were made.
