Learning Outcome
Students study such topics as creativity itself, writing techniques, and the importance of collaboration. By the end of the semester each student will have completed several preparatory assignments in addition to a culminating creative song project. The students will receive an introduction to a working MIDI-technology studio. Parallel to these assignments are readings about the models of the music business: music publishing, record labels, legal concepts, the copyright law, etc. Quizzes and a final exam measure retention of these concepts. Students who master the principles advanced will be able to function creatively and to manage others involved in the creation of commercial songs.
