Policies and Laws of Terrestrial Systems

Plant and Wildlife Sciences College of Life Sciences

Course Description

This course focuses on how the laws and the work of government agencies at the state and federal level affect terrestrial systems, sometimes protecting them and sometimes harming them. Students will understand how the law addresses or fails to address major challenges facing these systems and species. It will also create a more nuanced understanding of some of the competing interests that also garner policy support. The course will provide an introduction to land use law, federal lands law, Superfund, and the Endangered Species Act. It also provides students with a more nuanced understanding of how the National Environmental Policy Act relates to this context.
