Course Outcomes: 

Illustration Process

Students will develop visual concepts through ideation, observation and practice, staging figures in an appropriate environment and narrative context with suitable costumes, props, lighting and other elements to convey the meaning and intent of the image.

Media Fluency

Students will develop fluency in a chosen artistic medium, with an understanding of the unique strengths and characteristics of the various materials and applications of the medium.

Design Theory and Practice

Students will apply principles of composition, shape language and color theory to develop greater practical understanding of design, to refine the aesthetic sense, and produce appealing, high quality artwork.

Thematic Expression

Students will create original illustrations relevant to a specific audience and clientele, which communicate meaningful, uplifting ideas through narrative themes or symbolic concepts.

Professional Preparation

Students will develop a portfolio targeted toward one or more existing or emerging illustration markets, and apply knowledge of contemporary issues, selected readings and professional practices in the discipline.
