<p>Students will enhance their awareness of speech production through gaining a command of basic phonetics principles and terminology.</p>

Basic Phonetic Transcription Skill

Learning Outcome

<p>Students will accurately transcribe both typical and mildly disordered English speech samples using the International Phonetic Alphabet and its extensions.</p>

Distinguishing Between Differences and Disorders

Learning Outcome

<p>Student will demonstrate a beginning ability to appreciate and distinguish speech disorders from the speech differences that result from between-speaker variability (e.g., linguistic and cultural diversity) and within-speaker variability (e.g., register and context differences).</p>
