Note
Residents of the Foreign Language Student Residence (Japan House) should enroll for one credit hour. Those enrolled in the regular course either at BYU Provo or Study Abroad should enroll for two credit hours.

Students will be able to read and produce written materials in Japanese related to the essential oral tasks.

Learning Outcome
Students will be able to use Japanese at an Advanced level on the ACTFL proficiency guidelines to provide extended narrations and detailed descriptions related to topics of personal and general interest.

Essential oral tasks
Learning Outcome
Students will be able to successfully accomplish the following tasks in Japanese in both casual and professional settings: Give a personal narrative in a relevant real-world context, provide a detailed description of a complicated idea, and resolve complex transactions. These tasks will be accomplished with attention to doing the acts of apologizing, thanking, complimenting, requesting, and refusing in culturally appropriate ways.
