Title
Analyzing Japanese Grammar
Learning Outcome
Students will be able to identify correct use of major parts of speech in Japanese including nouns, verbs, adjectives, particles, auxiliaries, and honorifics. They will also be able to explain fundamental aspects of formal Japanese grammar including subjects and topics, tense and aspect, transitivity, case marking, embedded sentences, passives, and causatives.

Students will be able to use formal theories and principles from Japanese linguistics to determine the grammaticality of Japanese sentences, to correct common learner errors, and to improve the complexity of sentences they are able to produce in Japanese.
