Course Description

Development of aural skills through sight singing, rhythm reading, and improvisation; emphasis on learning solfège, counting syllables, conducting patterns, and hand signs in the performance of diatonic melodies in major and minor keys and basic rhythms in simple and compound meters.

Students will demonstrate the ability to sight-read diatonic melodies that arpeggiate tonic and dominant in any major or minor key.

Students will demonstrate the ability to accurately perform rhythms with duple divisions, dots, ties, triplets, and duplets in simple and compound meters while conducting.
