Learning Outcome
Students should gain a familiarity with how the disciplines of mathematics and biology can complement each other. Increasingly, mathematics is used to understand complex biological systems. Without some familiarity with the mathematical techniques, it is difficult to know how to interpret the results. In this class, a variety of applications to medicine and biology will be studied, highlighting the different mathematical techniques. The objective of the class is not only to introduce the students to various applications and methods but also to help determine the strengths and weaknesses of different methods.
