Course Description

Instruction on establishing community, personal management philosophy, severe/chronic misbehavior, systems of management, and the BYU-PSP Commitments. Clinical experience includes observation, practice, and reflection in a K-6 grade classroom.

Learning Outcome

Create a personal philosophy of classroom management based on an understanding of various management theories, levels of teacher control, and experiences in the classroom.

Learning Outcome

Teacher candidates will develop a specific plan for building community within the classroom, including effective communication.

Learning Outcome

Teacher candidates will describe various systems of management, how to handle severe/chronic misbehavior, and emergency response procedures.

Learning Outcome

Teacher candidates will synthesize the importance of the five BYU-Public School Partnership Commitments and develop a specific plan for incorporating various aspects of democracy in the classroom.

Demonstrate a “beginning” level competency and disposition of a classroom teacher as evidenced by the summative evaluations using university-based observations.
